Mr. and Mrs. AnswerVanswer may not be typical year-round van-lifers, but we do share a deep love of the outdoors, wanderlust, and minimalism central to the invaluable sense of freedom that comes with the lifestyle.

We are lucky (sorta by design) to work for ourselves. Tina was a corporate technical writer whose “unfortunate” layoff led to the creation of her own thriving tech writing business. Joe was a corporate design engineer who witnessed Tina’s freedom firsthand and said, “I gotta get me some of that.” So he quit his job and now launches creative new products and sells them online.

This flexibility in our work situation allows us the space to get out there and explore the van life. Being lifelong backpackers, we also love leaving our van behind, getting our boots dirty, and sleeping in our tent under the stars. But we also have a house we love and a beautiful cat we adore (who gets car sick) that bring us home.

The internet is chock-full of van life information and some excellent how-to sites, which we have referenced throughout, but it’s very hard to find information specific to mini RVs or mini campervans. So we wanted to fill that gap and also give some clarity between our initial thoughts during the build and our actual experiences with the decisions we made. We try very hard to provide these insights and recommendations with the frank honesty that they deserve and we hope you find it useful.
